This series presented by Janet Kahn, PhD, LMT, is approved by NCBTMB to fulfill their 3-CE hour Research Literacy requirement.

This 3-part series of webinars on research, designed specifically for massage therapists, will introduce you to a rich world of research categories including and beyond the clinical trials we usually think of as research.

Along the way you will learn basic research terminology, ethical issues in research, how to find and make the most of the research that exists on topics that matter to you, and a little bit of history as well.

You may start out wary of this beast, but you will leave ready to use it for your purposes - whether that be marketing your practice, becoming a better massage educator, or answering client questions.

The single most important study that put therapeutic massage on the health care map was not a clinical trial!  Come find out about the "observational" study that moved us forward - and a whole lot of other research categories and terms that you can master.  You won't come out being a research scientist, but you will know how to use research for your purposes.   Forget the hierarchical research pyramid.  Come take a tour of the Healthcare Evidence House.

Respect for personal autonomy, beneficence, justice - what do these values mean in the context of research?  You have studied the ethical issues of clinical practice; now learn about ethics in research.  This webinar gives you a real understanding of the ethical and quality standards in good research.  Learn how the wisdom of Hippocrates and other early scholars still guides research practice today.

Need some research findings that are relevant for your clients? Come learn how.  In this webinar you will watch a live literature search on the largest healthcare database in the world, and learn how to do it yourself.  Learn how to find what you want, understand it and assess its value quickly.  By the end you will understand what we mean by independent and dependent variables, and terms like validity and reliability.  You will have tamed the research beast.
